#SharingElectiveStuff

Our #SharingElectiveStuff intervention is a national movement as we know that even in areas that share good practice, it is often focused on clinical delivery initiatives which support medical and nursing staff within organisations. There has been a gap in the market for sharing purely operational initiatives and the work that supports the operational staff within organisations. #SharingElectiveStuff successfully fills this gap.

Sharing best practice is a priority for the NHS yet, in, reality it can be difficult for colleagues to find the information or time to do this. We further recognise that Trust digital platforms are limiting, and Operational Managers have a constant influx of demands to juggle and therefore head space to focus on improvement.

#SharingElectiveStuff is built upon a model that works and has proven to be popular with Operational Managers nationally. Our aim is to improve how we share best practice within the NHS and take it into delivery. Short, snappy sessions on hot topics that Operational Managers are challenged with on, a daily basis.

All sessions are shared across the network membership, and you can find them all listed on our Events page.

#SharingNonElectiveStuff

Based on the success of #SharingElectiveStuff we have further expanded our development offer to #SharingNonElectiveStuff.

Just like #SharingElectiveStuff, this space provides the exact same approach, yet bases all of our practical sessions on non-elective care.
Our members asked us to build it, and we delivered.

GIRFT Associates

Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) is an NHSE programme designed to improve the quality of care within the NHS by reducing unwarranted variations. It is increasingly recognised that Proud2bOps members hold a wealth of expertise such that transformations can be guided and sustained through collaboration.

A call for operational expertise:

The national GIRFT (Getting It Right First Time) programme are providing a number, of Trusts with ‘focused support’ to help them address specific challenges and develop sustainable pathway improvements. In keeping with the GIRFT ethos, this aims to be ‘shoulder to shoulder’, clinically led and operationally supported, driven by data and best practice. To date, this focused support has proved effective in supporting the delivery of tangible benefits and has been well received by the Trusts. As such, we are developing this approach to provide additional capacity to increase our support offer for Trusts, aligned with the NHS England support framework.

Proud2bOps has over 1200 members at a Divisional General Manager/Deputy COO/Director of Ops level. Collectively, the network holds a wealth of expertise across operational service delivery; theatres, patient waiting lists, scheduling, administration, demand and capacity management, and partnership working across clinical teams and services. A collaborative approach between GIRFT and the Proud2bOps network has a clear synergy and opportunity to bring together the clinical and operational expertise and support.

With this synergy, we are introducing an Associate offer, backed by senior NHSE leaders. This approach will further strengthen the provision of ‘peer to peer’ support, from current operational managers who have highly relevant, recent experience specific to the project needs of the organisation they will be supporting. This supports the Trust's operational team with regards to ‘bandwith’ and focus, and provides an additional lens of external/objective perspective. Furthermore, we see this as an important development opportunity for the individuals providing the support and the opportunity to share their experience and expertise.

Executive Director Development Programme

Proud2bOps and the NHS Leadership Academy have worked together to develop the Executive Director Programme (EDP) for a Chief Operating Officer.

Now into its second cohort, the EDP for a Chief Operating Officer has proven a success with a record number of applications and places offered for aspiring Senior Operational Managers and Leaders.

This is one excellent example of co-designing a leadership development programme that is created by the professionals who do the job and live the job.

Cohort 3 is likely to commence at the end of 2023, or early 2024. Further information will be made available via the Proud2bOps engagement team.

Mentoring Programme

In February 2023, Proud2bOps launched its Mentorship offer.

Driving Leadership and Management Development is one of our 5 Strategic Objectives and our Proud2bOps Mentorship offer is just one way that we aim to meet this ambition. Today we launch Phase 1 of our offer where we provide you with peer-to-peer mentorship support as a Network of operational managers and leaders. This offer will allow you to register and recognise your needs as a mentee and also offer your support as a mentor. We believe this is valuable for many situations including; starting a new role, new to a specialty area, growing your expertise, re-energising, and building your confidence. There are many more to mention and each of you will have your own personal needs that we are confident a Proud2bOps member can support you with.

Please do not be shy in seeking a mentor, it is often one of the most liberating things you can do and should never be underestimated. Not yet registered? Please get in touch with Proud2bOps Team and we will send you the necessary proformas to complete and then off you go!

This is Phase 1 of our offer. Phase 2 is where we will work with our national Chief Operating Officers to secure their support and inclusion in the Proud2bOps Mentorship offer. This will mean that they will offer themselves as a mentor to members of Proud2bOps and equally, where they themselves require support or development, you are invited to offer your support as a mentor. We believe that every person should have the opportunity to develop and learn from others and most often, every person has development needs. Together we can support each other as a professional group of managers. We hope to launch Phase 2 in the Summer and all details will be provided. Phase 3, we aim to engage and encourage our aspiring Senior Operational Managers and work with you on how we can make this available to your aspiring management teams.

We hope that this offer continues to respond to your voices and feedback and provides the support and development you all greatly deserve. Mentorship Advice and Guidance on being a mentor/mentee is provided, including a number of short online learning sessions. We would like to thank IMAS for their support and we are pleased that we have worked in partnership to make this offer available to you all.
